8 Must Try Alcohol Free Drinks for the Sober Curious Soul

Aug 31, 2022

I had been Sober Curious and thinking about going Alcohol Free for about 6 months before I jumped in.

One of my close friends, planted the Sober Curiosity Seed for me by sharing with me about his addiction, his transformation, and his 10+ years of sobriety. I was amazed by his strength, bravery, and mindset overall. You will definitely get to hear more about him… I have a feeling I’ll be interviewing him on my upcoming podcast soon.

When was the day that I decided that I want to see what life looked like for me without alcohol? December 31st, 2021. That morning I made a decision and pact with myself, to truly honor this time and allow myself to explore adult life without alcohol.

Honestly, I was also excited to discover alcohol free (AF) alternatives to my “drinks of choice”, so that I could:

  • Try Something New
  • Play Around with Mocktail Recipes
  • Be more Present with Myself and Others

At the time of writing this, I have been Alcohol Free for 243 days. In that time, I have tried a number of different AF Drinks (some that definitely didn’t make the cut… we don’t talk about Bruno)and also learned so much about myself and my previous relationship with Alcohol. I feel so much better overall, and feel like I really am becoming the best version of myself now.

To be clear, I was not struggling with addiction but I was looking for something more… “Who am I without Alcohol?”. I drank socially with friends and neighbors, but I was really starting to rely on Truly, Champagne, or Whisky to unwind at the end of the day and relax.

I was also very aware that I shouldn’t be drinking any alcohol with my medication. This was a scary thought that haunted my dreams at night. Ultimately, this is what really solidified the growth and eventual blossoming of the Sober Curious Seed for me.

Sober Curiosity has given me so many gifts so far, and I am happy to pass along the Good Vibes, and Alcohol Free Drink Recommendations. So without further ado, here are 8 Must Try Alcohol Free Drinks for the Sober Curious Soul.

Moment

These botanical waters with adaptogens vaguely remind me of Arizona Tea, but without being overly sweet. Moment comes in still and sparkling versions. My favorite flavor Moment is Blueberry Ginger, and I love having it in my BrüMate (once reserved for alcohol and now used for all of my AF Adventures) to keep it cold. Moment is a Woman Owned Company and that gives me all the feels. I love supporting my sister souls! My favorite time of day to drink these is in the evenings, when I am doing my self care stretches, just before brushing my teeth.

Unspiked

When I tried Unspiked for the first time I was hooked. The cans are mini sized (some flavors come in tall slim) and the packaging is colorful, cheery, and vibrant. Lemon Lavender is my favorite flavor, but all of their options are delicious!

Unspiked’s parent company CANN is Cannabis positive and also makes CBD & THC Infused beverages for Dispensaries. Currently, their Cannabis Infused beverages are available in CA, NV, MA, IL & RI. If you're one of those states, you can find the closest retailers on this map. If you're not, unfortunately they can't ship the product to you due to cannabis laws, but they are expanding to more states this year!

Lyre Mixed Mocktails

This is hands down, my absolute favorite AF Spritzer. I didn’t think it was possible, but the flavor profile of the Classico is absolutely delicious. I tried Lyre’s G&T, Amalfi Spritz, and Classico. Classico was the clear winner in my book. Depending on your palate, if you like bitter flavors and you like the taste of grapefruit, you will likely love all three of these.

Ritual Zero Proof

If you are looking for AF Spirits for Cocktails, Ritual Zero Proof has you covered. They make Alcohol Free Gin, Tequila, Whisky, and Rum, in beautiful glass bottles. I tried all four of these, straight, over ice, and mixed with other things. I will say that if you are struggling with addiction, the aromas of these could be triggering.

Clear American

This is my go to sparkling water and (for me) the best alternative to Truly. It comes in so many different flavors and can be found at your local Walmart and a couple flavors are on Amazon. I love drinking this out of a Champagne flute in the bath tub. Yes, I am that girl. Clear American is inexpensive and is also a great option to put out at parties for your AF friends.

Petal

It’s Botanical Sparkling Water that makes you feel like you are in a different energetic field. Petal's beverages were actually the first AF Drink alternative I tried before I ventured fully into the AF world. I love Petal at all hours of the day. They are refreshing or calming depending on your choice of flavor. I honestly feel like a total goddess when I drink Petal, whether it is still in its beautifully designed can, or in a fancy glass. Out of all of the AF Drinks I have tried, Petal makes me feel the most High Vibe.

TÖST

Tea Based Celebratory Drink a la Champagne only AF. Beside the fact that this tastes like a soft sparkling juice with a hint of tea, you get to go through the whole ritual of pouring out of a large and lovely bottle. I really wanted a delicious alternative to Champagne that still gave me that Luxurious feeling. TÖST totally nailed it. My mom and I brought a bottle with us when we were on our Sedona Trip, and it upped the vibe so much! I like to keep a few bottles of TÖST on hand at home, so that we are ready to celebrate at any given moment! They also offer an AF TÖST Rosé that I am looking forward to trying soon!

Q Mixers Ginger Ale

This beauty found its way to me by chance and is what got me hooked on Ginger Ale as my go to beverage when dining out. Q Mixers' is hands down the best Ginger Ale I have ever had. Ever. If that isn’t convincing enough for you to give it a try, I don’t know what else to do! Q Mixers Ginger Ale is Spicy and it is SO GOOD.

If you are Sober Curious, I invite you to give some of these options a try, and download the Reframe App on your phone. I’ve been using the Reframe App. It has been supporting my Alcohol Free Journey, using neuroscience 🧠. All you need is 15 minutes a day!
