Following the Spark: Lessons from Another Trip Around the Sun
Birthdays (or Birthiversarys) always make me a little reflective. They feel like a quiet threshold — a moment to stand between who I’ve been and who I’m becoming. This year, more than ever, I'm finding clarity not through grand declarations, but through the small, powerful sparks that light the way. Today, I want to share a few reflections that have been shaping my heart, my writing, and my way of moving through the world.

Lesson 1: Neurodivergence is My Secret Ingredient
Growing up, I always knew I experienced the world a little differently — but it wasn't until later that I found the language for it: neurodivergence. It’s not a label I use to limit myself; it’s a lens that helps me celebrate the way I process, connect, and create. My sensitivity to pattern, emotion, energy, and the "hidden layers" of life deeply shapes the stories I tell. It’s why you’ll often find myth woven into memory, why my characters wrestle with unseen forces, and why I believe that sometimes the smallest, quietest moments hold the most magic.
Lesson 2: Energy and Intuition Are Creative Tools (Not Just Mystical Ideas)
Nikola Tesla famously said, "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration." While I’m not building inventions in my garage (yet), there’s something in Tesla’s vision that resonates with me deeply. I believe that creativity — like energy — follows unseen currents. Sometimes inspiration feels less like something I make and more like something I tune into. Call it God, call it intuition, call it soul, call it resonance — whatever name you give it, it’s real. And honoring that frequency in my creative life has opened doors I never could have forced open through sheer logic alone.
Lesson 3: The Right People Are Catalysts for Growth
If there’s one lesson life keeps teaching me, it’s this: who you walk with matters. Whether it’s creative collaborators, friends, mentors, or loved ones — surrounding yourself with people who see you, support your weirdness, and celebrate your growth makes all the difference. The right people don't just encourage you; they expand you. They remind you who you are when you forget. I'm endlessly grateful for the ones who walk this road with me.
Lesson 4: Boundaries Are Acts of Love and Courage
For a long time, I thought that being kind meant being endlessly available. I thought that if I just gave more, loved harder, stayed longer, everything would work itself out. But what I’ve learned is this: boundaries aren’t walls to keep people out. They’re invitations to deeper, healthier connections — ones rooted in mutual respect, care, and truth. Setting boundaries isn’t about shutting down love; it’s about choosing the right kind of love, for yourself and for others.
Lesson 5: Following the Spark is the Bravest Thing I Can Do
When I was younger, I thought I had to plan every step. Now, I know better: the path reveals itself as you walk it. Every time I’ve followed the spark — that little nudge, that quiet this way — I’ve found myself exactly where I was meant to be, even if it didn’t make sense at first. The powers that be — God, the universe, intuition, the symphony of unseen forces — they’re always speaking. We just have to be brave enough to listen... and humble enough to trust.
So here’s to another year of following the sparks.
Of believing in things unseen.
Of setting sacred boundaries.
Of choosing people who lift your soul higher.
Of honoring the way your mind was always meant to work.
And of trusting that wherever you are today, it’s a part of a bigger, more beautiful story than you can even imagine yet.
