From the Amberlight Apothecary: Cleanse Your Space with the Spring Equinox

A gentle Ostara ritual for renewal, intention, and light.

The Spring Equinox is here… the sacred midpoint where day and night stand in perfect balance. Also known as Ostara, this is the moment when the wheel of the year tips toward the light.

From here on out, the days stretch longer. The sun lingers. The earth begins to stir. You can feel it, even before you see it. Tiny buds pushing through soil. Hatchlings cracking through old shells. Baby animals wobbling into the world. The Spring Equinox is not loud. It is subtle and powerful at once — a season of awakening. And just like the earth, we are invited to wake up too.

What Are You Ready to Bring to Light?

The Spring Equinox is a beautiful time to cleanse your space, not just physically, but energetically. It’s less about scrubbing for perfection and more about making room. Room for what’s blooming. Room for what’s calling you forward. Room for dreams that may have been dormant all winter.

Before you reach for anything elaborate, pause.

Cleansing doesn’t have to be dramatic. It can be as simple as opening the windows and letting fresh air move through the corners of your home. It can be clearing one drawer. Lighting one candle. Wiping down one sacred surface with intention. Let this be about presence, not pressure.

A Note on Sage & Palo Santo

Sage and palo santo are often the first things people think of when it comes to space cleansing… and yes, they are beautiful traditions. But they are not the only option. If you already have them and use them respectfully, continue in gratitude. If not, there are countless other ways to refresh your space without contributing to over-harvesting. The goal isn’t performance. It’s alignment.

Essential Oils for Fresh Energy

I love diffusing essential oils during the Equinox — especially a blend of Lavender and Lime. It feels bright and grounding at the same time. Soft, but alive.

Here are a few oils that feel especially supportive during this seasonal shift:

  • Lemon – Clarifying and cleansing. Beautiful for fresh starts.

  • Lavender – Protective, calming, and strengthening.

  • Cedarwood – Grounding and steadying. A return to yourself.

  • Melaleuca (Tea Tree) – Helpful for clearing stagnant energy and reinforcing boundaries.

You can diffuse them, add them to a natural cleaning solution, or simply inhale them during meditation or journaling. The scent becomes a marker… a memory in your nervous system that says: we are beginning again.

Crystals for Clearing & Renewal

We often talk about cleansing our crystals, but they can help cleanse us too.

A few that feel especially aligned with The Spring Equinox/Ostara:

  • Selenite – A self-cleansing stone that gently clears stagnant energy.

  • Clear Quartz – Amplifies intention and lifts the spirit.

  • Black Tourmaline – Grounding and protective, especially around electronics and busy spaces.

  • Moonstone & Green Moss Agate – Perfect for honoring growth, fertility, and new beginnings.

Place them near doorways, on windowsills, or in the space where you dream and plan. Let them quietly do their work.

Simple, Powerful Cleansing Rituals

If you’re craving something tactile and grounding, here are a few gentle practices:

  • Open the Windows – Fresh air is medicine. Let light and movement enter your home.

  • Salt Sweep – Sprinkle a small amount of salt near doorways or across thresholds. Sweep it toward the door and release it outside. Simple. Symbolic. Effective.

  • Plant Something – Wildflowers. Herbs. Produce. Even a small indoor plant. Planting life is one of the most sacred Equinox rituals.

  • Spring Clean with Intention – Declutter one area. Clear one surface. Make space for what’s next.

Remember: cleansing doesn’t need to be elaborate to be meaningful.

Honoring The Spring Equinox on Your Altar/Creative Space

If you have a sacred or creative space, consider adding:

  • Eggs (symbols of potential and rebirth)

  • Cream, green, and soft yellow tones

  • Rabbits or lamb imagery

  • Fresh or faux flowers like tulips, daffodils, irises, or freesia

Let your space feel alive — hopeful, blooming, light-filled.

A Gentle Dreaming Practice

Ostara is also a day for dreaming forward. Ask yourself:

  • What did I dream of becoming when I was little?

  • Does that dream still tug at me?

  • What would my life look like if I let it bloom?

  • What small, inspired action can I take this season?

The Spring Equinox gives you permission to expand again.

Affirmations for the Season

  • I make space for new growth in my life.

  • I honor balance… in light and in shadow.

  • I am allowed to shed what no longer serves me.

  • I nurture the seeds of my becoming.

  • I am always blossoming into a deeper version of myself.

At the end of the day, this season isn’t about doing more. It’s about clearing what’s heavy so you can step lightly toward the sun.

Let your cleansing be gentle. Let your dreaming be bold. Let your home reflect the life you’re ready to grow.
